Anniversary Cruise - Cozumel Part 1

On Tuesday morning, we woke up in Cozumel.  We were pretty excited about this day.  Matthew had planned our excursion months back - he wanted to do a dune buggy tour of the island.  The tour lasted about 5 hours so we had a pretty tight schedule to maintain, especially if we wanted to do any shopping in town.

We got up early so we could get off the ship early.  We had our shopping list planned out (places we could go get freebies) and other things and then we'd take a taxi to the location.  Because we didn't book this excursion through the ship, we went to a smaller outfit and there was only one other couple there with us.  They were from Kentucky and had their 4 year old daughter with them.  It ended up being fun with such a small group.

We started with a short snorkeling trip, then had lunch, then got in our dune buggies and drop to the tip of the island where we went to the Punta Sur State Refuge.  There, we went to the Saltwater Crocodile Observatory, got to see some small Mayan Ruins (with very interesting history) and climbed to the top of the beautiful lighthouse there.

When we left there, we drove up the other side of the island and made a quick stop (about 20 minutes) at a beach, stopped at Hacienda Tequila, where we learned how tequila is made and then back to town for some last minute shopping before getting back on the ship.

We had the best time that day - it was so much fun.  We decided that if we do this again, we want to stay longer in Cozumel or just fly straight there and stay in a resort.  It was fabulous!!!

Watching as we port in Cozumel - ready to go!

About to Snorkel - My first time!

Some of the beautiful sights under the water

Waiting on our lunch - I could not believe how beautiful the water was

After snorkeling - I was nervous at first but had a blast and would love to do it again!

Wanted the kids to see our Authentic Mexican chips & dips

Very good - I personally didn't like the beans - they had a smokey flavor to them, but Matt did and everything was great!

A "selfie" in the buggy
The picture they took - love it!!!

We were so excited - you can tell by this short video!!!

We had just entered the Punta Sur State Refuge and were heading to the tip where the lighthouse is.  So pretty!

Some of the wildlife hanging around!

Alan was our guide and he did an amazing job.  Here's he's telling us this really interesting history of this specific Mayan Ruin

Having fun!

Stayed tuned for Part 2 of the Cozumel Trip!!!
