Hopkinsville Soccer Tournament Day 1

We are playing in our last soccer tournament for the fal season in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. We got up at 5am to get ready, we woke the kids up at 5:45 am and got them in the car and headed off to Kentucky, via Hardees for biscuits. It only took us about an hour to get there so we actually ran into the local Super Walmart to go to the potty and change out of our pj's. Our first game was at 8am. We were even able to watch the sun rise on the trip.
We played Ambush 98 which is either a Clarksville team or the Hopkinsville team. We played extremely well and won 9-1! Our next game didn't begin until 1:30 so since there were several families on our team who stayed at the Hampton Inn in Hopkinsville, a group of us went to the hotel and hung out. Some of the boys were upstairs watching a movie and then some of us just hung out in the lobby for a while. We ate lunch at Applebee's and headed to our second game.

We played at 1:30 against Metropolis, which we believe is a team from Illinois. They were a much bigger and stronger team but we came out strong against them and scored first and held it the first half. However, after half time, the other team came out and scored, then they scored, then scored again and again. Very quickly, we were down 1 to 3. Fortunately we were able to get back into the game and go ahead of them 4 to 3 with 6 minutes left and we held onto that score to win. We were thrilled and it was a very exciting game.

So what this means is that we are first place in our "flight" and will play the 2nd place in the other "flight" tomorrow morning at 10:30. The is a small tournament and they are actually combining different ages brackets so today, we played teams our age and tomorrow, the team we play will actually be a U12 team (a year older than us). But we're hopefully we will come out and play well and win. If we win the first game at 10:30, we will get to play in the finals at 2:15.

Of course for the Warrens, this complicates everything because it's on a Sunday but the plan is as follows; Christian & Katie will catch a ride with another Mom and son to the game tomorrow morning. Matthew will head to church with the girls for a normal Sunday. If we loose our game, Christian & I will head back home and meet the rest of the family for lunch at home. If we win the game and get to play in the 2nd game, Katie will get "the call" from Matthew after church asking if they need to head that way or not. If we win, he will get in the car with the girls and head back up to Hopkinsville for the final game. That's what we're hoping for. This works well for us to hitch a ride with friends so that if we end up in the final game, we don't have to take 2 cars to Hopkinsvile...

Which by the way, we found and purchased gas today in Kentucky for $2.89!!!! We were thrilled about that.

So stay tuned for a posting tomorrow about Day 2 of the tournament......
