8th Grade Sports Recognition Night

The 8th graders at GMS are recognized after their 8th grade season of a sport.  Since Christian didn't play basketball his 8th grade year, he didn't get to attend one of these, so this was our first with Rebecca.  The school did a nice job of this.  It was nice that it was the football players, cheerleaders, track team and volleyball team.  They will do another one in the spring for the winter and spring sports. Rebecca was assigned 2 escorts.  We are very proud of her and her accomplishments in Volleyball these last 3 years!  Can't hardly believe she will be in High School next year!

Who is Johnny Appleseed?

In the fall, the 1st graders were studying Johnny Appleseed.  Julianna was given the option by her teacher to do a special research project on him.  Of course she was thrilled to go above and beyond to do it.  We went to the local library and got some books and a book on tape and then we had a video at home on Johnny Appleseed.  She did such a great job on this project all by herself!  It was assigned to her on Friday (and she drove me crazy all weekend about it) and she presented it to her class the following Friday.  Here's it is - she's a hard worker and we are very proud of her!

County Volleyball Tournament 2012

Our Varsity Team struggled a little bit this season and didn't get seeded as high in our County Tournament.  We assumed we'd get through the first round and loose in the second.....well, unfortunately we lost in the first round.  It was a sad way to end the season, especially coming off winning the tournament last year.  But what's done is done.  So we redirected our energy to the JV team.  Our JV team turned it on and won the County Tournament for the 2nd year in a row.  We were very excited for them.

Our varisty team sat on the bleachers and cheered their hearts out for their JV teammates!

And just a little craziness!!!

8th Grade Volleyball Season

It's hard to believe that Rebecca is in her final year at the Middle School.  Man, time has gone by fast.  So we were a little sad to realize this was her final year of volleyball there, too.  The coach that she had her first two years resigned as coach at the end of last year, so she had a new one this year.  Coach Tori was very different from Coach Clark so we weren't sure what to expect, but Rebecca enjoyed her and playing for her.

Rebecca was selected as one of the two captains for the Varsity team.  We were very proud of her and that accomplishment, being voted on by her teammates.

Here are some pictures of her from the season.  (Remember first of all that it's so hard to get good pictures in a gym and second of all, that I'm a score keeper during the season so I depend on others to get pictures for me!)

Warming up

Huddling up

You may remember that as a 6th grader, she was the only one allowed to serve underhand because she was so small and had no strength.  As a 7th grader, she was required to serve overhand...and struggled.  Well, as an 8th grader - she got it!!  She had such a beautiful overhand serve and we were so proud of her for working hard on it!!

Digging the ball out of the net

She's the setter so she's "hiding" behind Hannah Grace, the spiker/blocker (okay - whatever...the tall one)

Setting the ball

Set!

She even "hit" the ball a few times - she's come a long way - so proud!

Student of the Month

For the first month of school, Julianna was chosen to be the Student of the Month from her class.  So we went to the PTO meeting and she got her certificate and medal.  As always, we are so proud of her!

Disciple Now Weekend

Our students had a Disciple Now Weekend again and I was asked to help with their service project.  So I was able to sneak a few pictures of their weekend while I was with them.

The girls went to a thrift shop and volunteered in their basement by sorting and hanging clothes!  Here's a portion of us

Even the adults can have a little fun with some of the clothes!

Gotta get a dress up picture - there were certainly some "interesting" finds there!

The High School girls helped upstairs and then decided it was fun hat picture time!

Painting Up

So Christian had the opportunity this summer to meet some of the High School soccer players and get to know them.  He even got to play a couple of times with them on a 6v6 summer league (although he only was able to be at 2 games).  But it was such a great opportunity for him to get to know some of the older teammates.

The girls play in the fall season so at one of the home games, the boys team decided to "Paint Up" for the girls.  I was SOOOO glad that someone got this picture and he let me see it.  I think it's awesome.

Can you tell which one he is???  :-)  I love my "O"!!
